My Project

The students at my school have multiple disabilities. Our students have significant challenges and diverse learnings styles. At our school we understand literacy as evident in student communication, social interactions, and problem solving; therefore, we consider students to be demonstrating literacy skills and abilities when they learn a new communication system, use literacy materials to explore, socialize, or share information, or follow the literacy “routines” of the classroom.

We believe literacy education equips students with the strategies to learn how to read and write as well as provides opportunities for students to develop their ability and motivation to communicate and relate to the world around them.

Our students will be creating "The Literacy of Me!" story books. For some this is their first opportunity to becoming an author and/or illustrator of a published book. Their masterpieces will be full of vivid colors with the use of the Crayola markers, glitter markers and dot-to-dot markers requested in this project.
