Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
From South East Los Angeles, most of my students are from 1st and 2nd generation immigrant families. Many of them recognize that going to collage is the way to benefit their families and communities. Many of my students are planning to go into different medical fields; dentistry, veterinarian, biochemistry, nursing, etc.
My students have learned that it is possible to adhere to rules (something that I strongly enforce) but at the same time be a creative, expressive, individual (something that is encouraged).
My Project
Our students want to participate in performing arts programs in any way possible. However, our school has not had a performing arts program for many years.
The students at our school want to learn how to create and design theatre sets, but we lack the tools and resources necessary to achieve this.
Many students want to be involved in learning stagecraft and design.
Mastering these skills can actually be an inroad into becoming a professional stage technician. We have scouted internship possibilities but experience is the most important part of being accepted. Our students the basic tools and materials to start learning stage crafts.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
