I teach a K/1 class with 3 other teachers in a low-income, high poverty school district. Our students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. There are many demands emotionally and academically.
Our students are champions each day when it comes to overcoming these obstacles.
They come to school ready to do their best and are eager to learn to read.
Our K/1 kids are hands-on learners who love to explore the world around them and help each other. They work hard each day to do their best in reading, writing, and math. They are the most loving kids around.
My Project
This is my 31st year of teaching in the same school. My goal is to create strong readers, writers and long life learners.
The books in this project are based on the Science of Reading will help me to understand the reading and writing brain.
The Knowledge Gap, Speech To Print and Language at the Speed of Sight will help enhance and deepen my background knowledge of how the brain learns to read. The Writing Revolution and How to Plan Differentiated Reading Instruction, will give me activities and lessons I can use with my students in small groups.
These books will help me use the best instructional methods to help my students become strong readers and writers. Thank you for taking the time to read about my project.
