Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students want to be a part of the global classroom known as Skype. Please help me introduce my very deserving students to a world they will never know without the latest technology.
Our rural school is located in a small, South East Texas town.
We serve a very diverse group of low socioeconomic students. Despite challenges like language barriers, hunger, violence and homelessness, our community wants the best for all our struggling learners. Hard economic times have left us without the financial resources we need to obtain the latest technology.
My Project
My students have a very limited view of life outside our small town. Many of them have never traveled more than 50 miles from their homes. Having the ability to Skype will allow me to share places, people, and cultures they otherwise would never get to experience. A Laptop to Skype would also allow us to connect with people they otherwise wouldn't be able to connect with. For example, the first thing I'd like to do is set up an author visit via SKYPE. Unfortunately, our district does not have the resources for a real face-to-face visit. The opportunity to interact with an author would inspire my students in so many ways.
We also need a docking station to charge our iPad and batteries for our Leapsters. The students love computer day, but we can't have computer days if our iPads and Leapsters are dead. We need a table to take our computer to.
Recent budget cuts have left our school without the money for enrichment experiences that were once an important part of our curriculum.
Please help me introduce them to Skype and the world that is outside waiting for them.
