Next year will be my third year teaching. As my second year comes to an end, I am looking around my classroom and noticing what's actually been used and what hasn't. This was our first year departmentalizing 4th and 5th grade, which was exciting, terrifying, and fantastic for our students. I'd like to give them what I can next year to make it just as special as this one.
New and extra alternative seating helps students explore reading on their own terms, which encourages them to focus on the books and coming back for more.
As it is both years I've taught, the class library is easily the most used space, but our bean bag has holes and our pillow covers are worn. A library deserves to feel welcoming and comfortable!
Something new I implemented this year has been soft start mornings with Brain Bins (or STEM Bins). Now that I know what students have enjoyed the most from them, I know what to replenish (Pix Brix are easily their favorite, but also the easiest to get lost to the depths of the classroom), what to replace (rubberband boards... not my brightest idea for 4th graders), and what to get more of (magnets! Who would have thought?).
Help me help my students have another amazing year! It's a rough transition going from 3rd to 4th grade, so anything to make it better, I'm willing to do.
