Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In this community of newcomer, beginner to intermediate ESL middle school students, we see the need for learning to read but just as importantly reading to learn. This nonfiction book filled with the many academic text and graphic text features will inspire readers to learn to read but more importantly become excited about the state they are living in!

Knowledge in NonFiction stories is powerful!

My expectation and goal is to encourage a group of 100 students to learn of Texas history and become fluent English readers. I'm confident this book has the structure and facts to support this effort. Imagine 100 students, each with their very own book to annotate into and read. By the end of the book, they would have invested hours and mind into their learning.

This group of students are diverse in language and culture. Multilingualism strengthens the group in understanding different perspectives. All of us coming together under one book with different experiences will bring so many reflection pieces to discuss in groups.
