Help me give my students books for our author study unit on young adult and middle-grade authors like Jason Reynolds, Meg Medina, Lamar Giles, Neal Shusterman, and more!
I teach a variety of levels and readers in English 8 from advanced academics to a general education setting. Some of my students love to read and others need more support and incentives to keep reading. In my class, students are challenged to read 20 books of their choosing throughout the year instead of traditional whole-class novels.
My students are in the process of becoming lifelong readers.
My goal is help them on their path by getting them excited about reading!
My Project
I have done author study units before, but it always involves a lot of work on the students' end trying to get copies of the titles. I want the work to be in the reading and the learning, not in chasing down books and spending money that some families might not have.
Rather than every student reading the same book, I want students to form book clubs and study a current young adult author that they really enjoy.
Students will study different literary lens, fiction terms, and grow their love of reading through this unit. I cannot wait to get started!
