My Students

My students truly are shining STARS! We have a very diverse campus of students in Grades K-5. As their music teacher, I have the honor of helping them shine on and off the stage. Especially through our most recent challenge as a school family to rebuild after Hurricane Harvey.

Our elementary school was flooded during Hurricane Harvey and our students and staff were displaced onto two different campuses (K-2 at one school and 3-5 at another school).

I traveled between the two schools all year to teach them and tried to help create a sense of normalcy through music. Music has the power to heal and I am so proud of my students' resiliency and how we all persevered!

My Project

Xylophones are perfect instruments for the elementary music classroom because they have different pitches and allow us to play melodies, harmonies and ostinatos! Not to mention that they are played by striking and all young children love to hit things!

We need an additional soprano xylophone and alto xylophone for our classroom so that students won't have to wait as long for their turn to play and they can all have more time to experience the joy of making music!

Xylophones can be quite expensive so I plan to try and add two instruments at a time until we have enough for everyone to be playing at once. Our school community is still recovering and rebuilding after Hurricane Harvey and I thank you in advance for your help to make our xylophone collection grow!
