Xylophones will help us combine our love of percussion and our desire to learn melody and harmony! I teach Music and Integrated Arts to 230 students in an urban elementary school. Many of my students are learning English for the first time, so school is difficult for many of them -- but the language of music gives them an opportunity to learn and to excel quickly!

Although I do not have a classroom in the school, I am able to set up in one classroom for before school music ensembles. This has been a wonderful opportunity for students to have percussion ensembles -- I have loyal and quite talented members, of whom I am very proud, and who take pride in what they have learned so far in the school year. However, we need more instruments, as interest in our ensembles has grown!

The addition of xylophones will encourage those who'd like to join us to do so and will add another dimension to our learning. With the Global Beat wooden xylophones, we will be able to play a variety of styles of music and we will have a portable instrument that we can carry with us for performances, within the school and (hopefully) at others in our area.

Your help will ensure that more of my students will be able to express themselves musically. My students will learn a new instrument, find another source of pride (when in other academic areas they may be struggling), and I will have another way to engage their interest in school!
