My Project
This year for our vocational studies, our students have the opportunity to be creative in an Adaptive Makerspace all their own. They will use hammers and nails. They will use glue and paint. They will learn how to build, fix, and repurpose items by using all of the tools in their toolbox. What is most important during this type of project-based learning is, SAFETY! We have to teach our students how to complete their projects SAFELY and the only way to do that is to equip them with proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). Proper PPE will be integral to every student to be safe while working in our school's Adaptive Makerspace. The items will make a difference in their vocational studies by teaching them how to be safe in any workspace. When our students leave high school, they may go to dayhab programs or job sites where they will work hard every day, and they should know when they need things like gloves, goggles, dust masks, or ear plugs and how to advocate that they need them. The goal for this project is to teach my students that above all, in any real-world situation or application, their safety is of the upmost importance. My students are special because despite any cognitive or physical hurdles they have had to overcome, their abilities by far are way more amazing than any of those hurdles. Discovering their abilities is what we do best and being themselves is what they do best. My students have this great opportunity to learn new work tasks and be more creative than they've ever been. I am so proud of them every day.
