I teach music at a Title I school in suburban South Carolina. The students make up 38 classes in grades pre-kindergarten through fifth grade, including special ed, regular ed, and gifted students. Many of these students come from low-income families and they rely on teachers or the school for their materials. All of my students love new experiences. They are always eager to get involved in learning.
Our mascot is the Busy Bee, and we certainly stay busy trying to make every moment count in music class!
My students get so excited on days when we play Orff instruments (xylophones and metallophones). In a single music class, we can learn a musical concept and practice it through singing and playing multiple parts on these instruments. It is a great hands-on approach to teaching music with my kids. Our challenge is that the Orff instruments in our classroom were the original ones purchased for the school over 34 years ago! They have been moved in and out of many locations as the school has grown. Some of the bars are broken or missing and the bodies of some of the instruments are cracked. They no longer sound well in tune either. I would like to replace them with high quality Sonor brand instruments with fiberglass bars, which do not react as much to the heat and humidity we have here in South Carolina.
These instruments will be used by hundreds of students each year. Your donation will make a huge impact on my students by making the music room their favorite place to be.
