Our classroom is a second grade room at a neighborhood school in Chicago. Throughout the day, we work on social skills, reading, science, writing, and math. We try to use our own experiences to create new learning and build on what we already know. The students in this classroom are very diverse with many different needs and strengths. They do all, however, have a common goal to do the best that they can do.
My goal as a teacher is to instill the love of learning in my students.
To help accomplish this, we work in small groups to give the students exactly what they need. I also try to give the students as many opportunities to explore and do fun activities throughout the day. I try to incorporate their interests into the daily curriculum to help them stay engaged and have fun.
My Project
Writers Workshop is a way for students to get their ideas down on paper. They love to write about stories and events that happen to them. This school year my class will begin Writers Workshop. In order to learn from mentor authors, we will need some mentor texts that students can go back to reference. These items will give the students exposure to different texts and writing styles of authors.
With this project, students will be able to write like the authors they love.
The storage bins will help students stay organized during writers workshop. This will ensure that they are successfully able to write during our workshop time and not be distracted by their materials.
