I have curious, energetic, creative, inspiring, and eager-to-learn kindergarten students in my classroom each year! I lead an organized, focused and differentiated learning environment with access to materials that address each need among various subject disciplines.
At the end of each year, I want my students to be confident learners, seekers of knowledge and great citizens for our school, their families and the community around us.
I work diligently for each student to be challenged daily and be the best that they can be, where he or she is at, in their kindergarten journey and beyond.
I have seventeen, full-time kindergarten students and seven additional developmental students that "push-in" for fifty percent of the day in the school year 2017-2018.
They all arrive with a variety of interests, talents, backgrounds and specific emotional and physical needs. All my students need fluid transitions, a prepared, print-rich, and organized environment, sensory breaks and consistent encouragement to keep them focused and ready for each task ahead. My school is an amazing family of strong leaders and teachers, support staff, parents, and community members.
My Project
My students grow at an amazing rate through kindergarten. They begin learning their letters, securing phonetic sounds, blending and before long they become creative and eager writers. I give them ongoing opportunities to practice their writing skills with various tasks. We use chalk, crayons, pencils, markers, salt on cookie sheets, whiteboards with expo markers, etc.
I want to increase the opportunities and the engagement of writing practices, as I add these new writing boards and stencil prompts to small groups.
It is great that a separate pen or eraser is not needed for the boards. A focused learning group can be formed in a minute with the boards that immediately are useful and also build fine motor skills for those with any struggle with pencil/paper activities.
I can see the students really focusing on our writing goals as we use these boards, collaborate, and hold up our completed work to share with others. The writing stencils will help add a perfect visual and connected illustration while supporting a common "fear" that is displayed when a young learner is asked to "write". I know I can use these materials for many students for years to come, as well as share them with peer teachers that are looking for a new practice for remediation or challenge! It will be a joy to add these to my teaching toolkit and classroom environment!
