My Students

We are a Title I school with over 86% of our students receiving free and reduced-price lunch. 82% African American, 17% Hispanic, and 1% other makes up the demographics of our school. Many of our students are transfers from low academically performing schools. When they come to us, they are one to two grade levels behind if not more.

We are a performing arts school; as well as a partial neighborhood school who house many children from low income neighborhoods.

Our school is located in a neighborhood that is very crime stricken. We work hard to provide our students with a different environment than what they normally encounter.

My Project

The use of the activities with the tongs will help build my students fine motor skills. Linking the alphabet will also work on fine motor skills as well as alphabet recognition and order. The writing boards will be used in small group to help practice some of those fine motor skills like making straight, zigzag, and curvy lines.

By strengthening my students' fine motor skills, this will help them write and form the letters of the alphabet correctly.

Fine motor issues are usually the reason why students don't like to write. I want to show my students how much fun writing can be by using the All About Me journals as they learn or build on these fine motor skills.
