Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students not only come from a low-income area, they are also working to learn the English Language. Despite all the hardships they have outside of school, they come to school ready to learn.
I teach at a Title I school where 88% of our students receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch.
We provide Blessings in a Backpack, where they take a bag of food home on the weekends. Despite so many hardships, my students walk into my classroom with a smile on their face and are so eager to learn. They deserve the materials that will help to push them to their full potential.
My Project
Learn-To-Write with Mentor Texts will help my students improve their writing skills. I would use the mentor texts to introduce each type of writing: narrative, informative and opinion writing. My plan is to read one of the text and the discuss it with my student. This would lead them into discussing the writing style that it is and why it is. This will help my students learn the parts that make up each type of writing. In addition, practicing these types of writing are important for my students because they are included on statewide assessments.
These materials will help my students to stay organized and ensure that they are successful with every paper they write!
My students can benefit from these folder as they help to guide them through a step-by-step writing process—with fold-out pockets that store everything from thinking maps to the final draft! In addition, each fold out is filled with information to help students in each process!
