My Students

Do you read newspaper articles or magazine articles? Where do you think those writers got their start? Yes, in elementary school. Writing is one of those skills, that first is hard to fit into the daily schedule, but a crucial part of being prepared for college.

The first graders in my classroom are always eager to learn no matter what background they come from.

These students attend a Title I school where 96% of the students receive free or reduced lunch. These first graders come from single parent homes or homes where one or more parent is unemployed, or possibly they are homeless. Many of my students speak languages other than English at home but their families provide for them the best they can. The first graders in my classroom, at times, struggle with learning because of the lack of supplies and educational cutbacks.

My Project

My students need one Sentence Building Learning Center, one Simple Sentence Learning Center, one Writing Activity Pocket set and one Write and Publish Activity Center to help them become better writers. These resources will allow my students to be their own authors, be their own publishers and even be their own illustrators. These items will allow my students to show their imaginative and creative side through writing. I want my students to be able to see that no matter their age they too can become the author, just like the stories we read in class.

I know that we all have financial troubles in some way or another, but if our students do not have the basic supplies they need to help reshape the world, what will our future look like?

Please help me to make this school year a success and not a struggle for my students.
