My students need a printer for publishing their work, the binding machine to create their books, and laminating pouches to create durable covers for the front and back.
Do you remember the first story you wrote in school? I want my students to cherish theirs forever. My students are such amazing and creative writers and they need a way to publish their work. These stories and writing pieces will be cherished for years to come with the materials requested here.
Located in a Title 1 school in a very rural area of Florida, you will find my creative and vibrant magnet third graders.
They think outside the box and constantly require and enjoy challenges in the classroom. My students are deep thinkers and want to know how everything works and why. They truly love to learn and show this through their enthusiastic attitudes in whatever we are doing. The writing process has been an exciting topic for our classroom and they write joyfully in their writing journals every day.
My students have started to learn about the typing process and they are intrigued by the editing and creative features of the word processing programs. Which is why I believe that the knowledge and memories gained from this Donor's Choose project would be invaluable.
My Project
Using the materials requested my students will be able to understand and experience the writing process of becoming a published author. We will walk through each step of becoming a writer and what each step means during the prewriting stages. They will each create unique and exciting stories by drafting their first piece. We will revise these first drafts using peer editing and one-on-one teacher and student conferencing. We will act like a true publishing company as students extensively revise their stories readying them for publication. Finally, in the most exciting stage of writing, my students will publish their work by printing, laminating, and binding their stories. This stage of the writing process requires the use of a high quality printer, laminating materials, as well as the binding machine and materials. This step is the most important because the students truly own their work at this point. The student understands the importance of writing and their creative impact.
My students would absolutely flourish from this opportunity!
Their thirst for knowledge and excitement to try new things makes this project even more exciting and worthwhile. As gifted and talented students, they need the extra challenge. This project's multi-step process and the hard work will create a sense of ownership and responsibility in my students. Writing is therapeutic and a way for students to truly express who they are and this project allows for their creativity to bloom!
