Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I daily teach part of the phonics and math lessons on the rug to my students, in a whole class setting. Our school is in Carson City, but a part of Compton Unified School District. Many of the students are bused in and are hardworking. The school has high expectations and so do I about the students' learning. I am asking for (lap size) white boards, white socks to use as erasers, and white board markers for the students to use to write on. (The socks could be a one time purchase that I could wash. ) Often times, in a whole class lesson we depend on oral and mental answers. It is difficult to engage every student and check each student's understanding. I want each student to have their own set of writing tools for the rug, so they can follow along more readily. This would be a year long activity used a couple of times a week. I have learned so much about different learning styles and want to cater to the needs I see in my students. Some of them just can't keep the audio attention and I could see these boards being a way to incorporate many of the students on a more regular basis. I have worked in a school that had these materials available and I believe they are effective. As a teacher I want to keep the students engaged and learning as best I can, and these writing tools can help them.
