Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

As my 4th grade students and I grow as learners and lovers of our precious environment, I try to establish routines and practices that reduce the amount of paper wasted in the classroom. Unfortunately, this doesn't always work out as planned and we end up recycling A LOT of wasted (half used) paper. My solution is simple, realistic, and affordable: personal whiteboards for each student. As a fourth grade teacher I am required to prepare my students for a variety of writing and spelling challenges. ALL 4th graders LOVE to write on the teacher's whiteboard, so why not give them the opportunity to have their own? With your help they can. I believe that personal whiteboards would give the students the freedom to brainstorm, story map, and practice spelling words without the worry of having to use a messy pencil and eraser and without wasting paper when they have an "Oops" or an "I didn't like that one." So, with your help we may continue our journey as budding authors and save the environment at the same time.
