My students need supplies for group writing projects and individual writing presentations.
I am asking for storage bins, pencils, markers, folders, etc. for group work.
A typical day n my classroom includes 75 students in 5th grade ELA eager to "get on their writing groove"!
By the end of the year my students become fluent writers and authors.
My greatest challenge, however, is having supplies for students to reach that goal.
With your help they can achieve more!
My students are great students.
We are located in a low-income area. They are faced with challenges that go beyond the classroom. Some are homeless, while others are basically "on their own".
Our school is wonderful and every teacher has a Smartboard, 6 computers, and access to check out class iPads and laptops. This, however, is not the issue that I am faced with as a teacher.
The school is about a 90% free or reduced lunch school. Parents find it difficult to meet the basic needs of their families and cannot afford supplies for their child's education.
This is where my problem lies and the reason I am requesting so many different types of materials.
If you so courteously help in funding the supplies that are needed, you will be impacting at least 75 students for the 2015-16 school year.
Please help me, help them, become productive students that will flourish in the real world, and hopefully start putting and end to a vicious cycle!
My Project
My students will be able to create wonderful writing projects using these supplies. They will be able to use the chart paper for expanding sentences and making them better, instead of just good. The markers and cardstock will allow them to bring their inner artist out for all to see.
Imagine running home (even as 5th graders) proud to show Mom the project you created in school.
My students need to know that they are great and they can become great and powerful. It doesn't matter where you come from or where you live. It matters where you are going in the future.
I am the one who, through writing, can show them this and build the confidence within their souls to make them see it.
I found a quote on Facebook (author unknown) that I love: "Your Mind Is A Garden. Your Thoughts Are The Seeds. You Can Grow Flowers, Or You Can Grow Weeds."
I refer to this quote on a daily basis and tell the students that it is very true and up to them if their "Garden" thrives or wilts.
Donations to this project will help improve the writing and collaboration skills among my students because they will have all the materials in front of them that may be needed to complete a school or at home project.
Each group will have their own supply of materials and they will not have to wait on one group to finish before they can begin.
My project/projects will make a difference in, not one life but, many lives by creating wonderful writers and possibly new authors in our future.
