Help me give my students an opportunity to express themselves and develop better writing skills. The write and wipe boards, story prompts, and practice cards will further develop fine motor skiils, develop confidence, and allow for creative expression.
My kindergarten class has been forever touched by the effects of Hurricane Michael on October 10, 2018. This hurricane has devastated their lives, including damages at school and their community. Several of my students are now considered homeless, due to this storm. They are living in campers or tents and are commuting long distances to be able to attend school. Although I have a small class now, I am hopeful several students will be able to return to our area and join our class again after the New Year, as they have been forced to leave due to no housing or lost jobs. It has been very common for these sweet children to refer to their homes as "my broken house".
Despite the upheaval in our hurricane-affected community, our students were excited about finally being able to return to school and restore some normalcy in their lives.
They were so excited to resume class schedules with their classmates and be able to immerse themselves into learning and interacting with their friends and classmates once again.
My Project
My students have been devastated after the recent hurricane. Several lost their homes, live in tents or trailers, and commute long distances to attend school. We lost many days of school due to the destruction of our community. We are now working hard to cover what could not be taught during the storm.
These various story prompts, magnetic boards, and letter/word cards will allow our students to have fun being creative in expressing their thoughts, as they develop fine motor skills and the skills necessary to become good writers.
These kindergarteners are so excited to be back at school and experience some normalcy in their lives. They will surely benefit from these writing tools!
