Help me give my students a chance to create an electronic portfolio of their writing with a portable document scanner. We also would love to fill our writing station with color and writing instruments.
“If you don’t see the book that you want on the shelf, write it.” -Beverly Cleary. I am so fortunate to work with not one, but two classes of first grade writers. They come to school every day with excitement in their eyes and stories to tell. Can you imagine 40 different scenarios every single day? I have the amazing opportunity to embrace these stories and encourage these young authors to create their own books!
I am very passionate about my students and their writing and they progress so much during first grade.
They come in as illustrators and storytellers and leave as published authors each year. Living in a rural community, writing allows us to experience adventures that we may not otherwise get the opportunity to see.
My Project
Last year, I filled our library with amazing mentor texts to motivate our writers. This year, I think they may need a little more boost on the creative side. Oftentimes, students are reluctant to write.
Included in this project are different ways to entice writers to get working!
Who wouldn't want to use a writing center containing colored gel pens for editing, erasable pens for writing in pen (how exciting!), a variety of markers and colored pencils to accompany their everyday crayons, retractable erasers because it's okay to make mistakes, an automatic stapler to create their own books, and, most importantly, the document scanner so students can create an electronic portfolio of their writing to view throughout the school year to see their progress and share with their parents at student led conferences?!
