Writing Our Stories: Journals to Empower Student Voice

Help me give my students find their voice through writing. With their own journals, they’ll have a consistent, safe space to express themselves, explore their identities, and grow as writers.

My Project

This project will provide each of my students with a personal writing journal—a place to write freely, reflect deeply, and tell their own stories.

We will use these journals during our "Own Voices" writing unit, where students explore themes of identity, community, and resilience.

In addition, we’ll use them for daily quick-writes, personal reflections, and poetry exercises. These journals help students feel ownership over their learning and pride in their progress.

With dedicated journals, students can track their growth over time, revisit earlier writing to revise and improve, and engage in meaningful reflection. Having a consistent, high-quality space for writing transforms the way students approach literacy.
