This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school serves a high number of socially and economically disadvantaged students. Most of my students qualify for free lunch in school. My fifth-grade class is very diverse in their academics. They range from far below basic to advance levels. Some are students with special needs and accommodations and others are students that need enrichment. Some are English Language Learners while others are fluent in the English language. But they are all eager for an education, however, the lack of resources prevent them from getting motivated and truly showcase their talents.

Many of my students have a variety of hardships at home, but at school, I try to make it a positive place where they can grow, learn, and be successful.

They come to school with big dreams, and I want to provide the best learning environment for them.

My Project

My students will now be encouraged to write on the table but not on an ordinary table, a whiteboard dry erase table. During English Language Arts, they will have opportunities to write the main idea and/or supporting details directly on the table as we practice comprehension skills. They will also be able to show their thinking directly on the table while practicing math problems. This new learning environment will allow them to easily share and explain each step of their thinking process as they collaborate with peers and share strategies.

The Whiteboard/Markerboard Dry Erase Table will be engaging and accessible for my students during small group instruction.
