This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
As a writer and an English teacher, I frequently share my quirky writing routine with my students. Whether I need to have a certain music playing, wear a certain shirt, have a certain candle burning, etc. My students are likewise fascinated with the fact that I often use an old-school manual typewriter to write letters, short stories, and poetry.
And since all things retro are en vogue, my students want to write on a typewriter.
Really, anything that gets my students interested, engaged, and passionate about writing, I try to encourage. Anytime my students can share one of my peculiarities (like my obsession with Edgar Allan Poe... or writing with a typewriter) I am pleased as pie.
My students will use this typewriter in my Creative Writing class to write poetries and short stories, which I will then post on my wall before it goes on my 'fridge at home.
If you could help make this passion project a reality, I would be much obliged.
