My students come from a large and diverse K through 8 high poverty school in a high crime area of Philadelphia, which receives Title I funding. My students are from low-income families. My students live in a variety of different living situations including homelessness. A full 100% of my students are eligible for free breakfast and lunch. They are future scientists, authors, engineers, artists, and computer programmers. I am excited to come to school every day and help my students learn. Each child is diverse and unique but they also have weaknesses. This year my goal is to help each student understand the value and importance of financial literacy. It is a topic so often overlooked but extremely essential to their futures.
My incredible students are in third and fourth grade.
This professional development class will give me the tools and strategies I need to enhance my students writing skills. My students are extremely creative, but struggle every day to write.
I'm excited to take this course so I can learn strategies to help build my students writing skills.
Every day my students come to school and try to write down their thoughts in a cohesive manner, but often get frustrated and give up. I was thrilled to discover a class like this was being offered, which can help me to help my students be the best writers. This course will show me the best ways to incorporate writing strategies, as we write across the curriculum discovering their hidden talents as true authors.
