My students need a Cricut die cut machine and cartridges, scrapbooking paper, and creative materials to complete their All About Me stories.

My Students
My twelfth grade English students love to tell stories. They get to to tell the best story about the one thing they know the most . . . themselves. Seniors in my class are given the opportunity to write about their own lives in memoir style. Decoration of the project allows creative juices to flow.
My school is a small, rural Oklahoma high school with about 350 students.
Our students come from many cultural (Native American, Hispanic, African-American, and European) and socioeconomic backgrounds (a high percentage qualifying for free-reduced lunches and public food assistance). It is often difficult for some students to purchase the materials required for learning opportunities leading to many teachers purchasing general supplies out-of-pocket. This project, and others like it, puts a financial hardship on not only the students, but on the instructors as well.
Although faced with much hardship, most of our students are funny, motivated, and have stories to tell. I want to give them the opportunity to tell their stories in a creative, fun way that will build not only memories but also self worth and a sense of accomplishment.
My Project
With the die cut machine and cartridges, scrapbooking paper, and other creative materials requested, the senior students will write, type, prepare, and create their 16 chapters. Each chapter has a focus including such titles as "Before I Was . . .There Were" and "The Games We Played" that follow students through their lives inside and outside of the classroom.
The students will use the craft paper and other materials to highlight sections of their writing, decorate the pages in an enhancing manner, and generally make a memory project that most wish to keep after graduation, to remind them of the times. Most of my students could not afford the materials to make the project truly worthy of keeping; I purchase what I can and often use my lunch money or other household funds. (My husband is physically disabled, so it is monetarily tight, and I spend much already on general classroom supplies.) I want each student to have the opportunity to create the project and feel the sense of self-worth and accomplishment that the project fosters.
Many of my students who are socioeconomically deprived have a lack of self-worth and sense of accomplishment due to the lack of materials or funding for the materials for special school projects.
With the ability to provide the materials, each student can achieve the desired goals without consideration of cost and inability to purchase desired materials to make the project truly special. My goal is for each student to have the opportunity to walk out of my classroom knowing they have a future.
