This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Hi! Thank you for taking the time to find out about myself and my students. My school has over 1,000 students and is rated a tier 1 school (high poverty). This year I will be teaching a first grade general education class with English Language Learners. The 30 or so students that I teach will be encouraged to be the best they can be. I am warm, supportive and encouraging.

My students don't have a lot of support at home, so I strive to create an environment where they have the support to try new things and are not afraid to take risks.

I do not get a classroom budget for school supplies so I try to do my best to supply my students with what I can on my own or am able to make. Any help would be greatly appreciated by my students.

My Project

I think it is so important to give my students time to think, practice, learn from mistakes and gain confidence by completing work independently and with partners.

The pencil cases will give my students the opportunity to quickly get writing materials when needed to experiment and search for strategies that work for them.

Each student would have their own pencil case with a dry erase marker, eraser and box of crayons to write and draw to show their thinking. They would be kept in a place that would be easily accessible to them when working independently or with a partner.
