We're a highly sought after neighborhood school that serves families from all types of backgrounds. We have students that wake up each day knowing they're loved and will be well cared for, and we have others who aren't so fortunate.
Our kids come in every shade of the human rainbow and embody all that is beautiful about childhood.
We have kids with learning and emotional disabilities, kids living in poverty, kids who are identified as gifted, kids we love. We meet each child where he is she is, and we support them grow into the individuals they are meant to be. They are special and unique individuals, but not without their challenges.
My Project
We all know that communication skills are vital to a person's success. Teaching writing is tricky, because there are so many different aspects of good writing. Sometimes it's hard to explain exactly why a piece of writing works. Readers, especially young readers, can't always tell why a text is good, they just know that it is. Breaking down the elements of good writing for kids is important so they can improve their own writing. That's where good models come in.
Mentor texts clarify concepts for young writers and give them models to emulate.
This collection of texts has been specifically chosen to help students see specific writing techniques in action. Along with the lessons outlined in the teacher text, they provide a framework for young writers to help them launch their own writing adventures. This systematic approach to developing writing skills, along with the engaging and age-appropriate texts, will help my students sharpen their emerging writing skills.
