As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative, meaningful and hands-on learning experiences.
My students are eager to learn new things and I am eager to teach them in new ways!
There are so many concepts that we learn in kindergarten from letters and numbers, to how to treat one another and what school is all about.
My Project
Many of my students have not had access to writing materials prior to entering my classroom. I need to show them how to hold a pencil and write on paper. Throughout the year my kindergarten students are required by our curriculum to write multiple sentences and respond to writing prompts.
To facilitate this end goal I need resources such as these reader-writer journals and paper with colored lines to teach my kids the basic conventions of writing.
Currently, we have regular paper with small lines that are not colored to help students identify top line, middle line, bottom line and learn basic letter formation. These materials will help my students learn to write and facilitate a life long love of learning!
