Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are energetic kids eager to learn. Over 90% of our students come from low-income households. A large percentage of our families meet the definition of homeless. My kids' parents are struggling to pay rent and get food on the table. And yet, our children still want to create, read, write, and learn!
My students worry about coming to school and staying safe; and yet, they still want to come to school to explore, learn and grow.
I am teaching online and trying to meet my students' needs emotionally, as well as academically, during this pandemic. I want them to be safe and stay healthy as they work hard to learn to read, learn to use technology, and at the same time, learn language arts, math, science and social studies.
My Project
My students are writers. We write every day. We write pictures, letters and words. We use a lot of paper. Writing daily builds confidence. These writing journals will help my students at home with our writing assignments while distance learning. My students can see their own growth from the beginning of the journal to the end. We are coming to the end of our journals and need new ones.
With these journals, my students will tell stories with pictures and labels, and also, write sight words and practice with phonetic spelling and writing.
Multicultural crayons will add to our writing and help my students see themselves in their writing.
Daily writing journals will help my students learn to take chances with writing sounds, words and sentences. These journals will tell their stories. These journals are a gift to our future authors.
