Have you ever tried to focus in a room full of your peers? How about writing when there is so much going on around you. My students love to write but sometimes find it difficult to concentrate on their work.
My students are amazing!
They work hard, try their best, and never give up! I am proud to teach a group of such resilient young children. Lately they have really gotten involved in writing...all types. Right before the holidays, I gave the students some "educational free time". They could use any of the materials in our classroom but it had to be educational. They could choose math materials to writing materials and even science experiments. More than half my class chose to work on writing! It was an amazing moment for me. Even my most struggling writer partnered up with a peer and started writing a mystery story! They love working on their stories and producing final copies. Sometimes I find that they get a bit distracted. Our room isn't huge but I do allow them to "write where they will produce their best work"! Distraction still happens. My students will often put up folders as offices but they fall down constantly and become an even bigger distraction.
My Project
The resources I am asking for I have tried to make myself. Working in a "high poverty" school, we often try to make as many of the materials as we can before we ask for the district to buy it. I have tried to make these privacy folders using manila folders but they are not durable and fall so easily. I also tried to have the students keep their work in folders in their desks but they get destroyed. These privacy folders and students organizer will greatly help my students stay focused and organized.
Each day I walk into my room and look out at my students ready to learn, I often think...who is the next famous author, inventor, doctor, nurse, teacher, engineer or anything else they can dream.
I am just one person on the way to their dreams. These privacy folders and organizing bins will allow them to focus on their work and know that what they produce is important and valuable. Thank You!
