My students need a laptop to write their stories while using their imagination. We need to write, publish and present our work using today's technology.
I have two fourth grade classes with 33 children in each class. My fourth-grade students have a passion for reading and writing. They are incredibly curious and love to learn. This year, my school has formed departments in ELA and Math, therefore the children have opportunities to have multiple teachers, teaching various subjects throughout a structured day. This is a good way for students to start getting ready for Junior High School where they will be faced with transitioning from one class to another and adjusting to various teachers throughout the day.
My students inspire me to look for new and innovative ways to engage them in rigorous and meaningful instruction that will enable them to be independent and critical thinkers.
The majority of my students are English Language Learners, they speak their own native language at home. Building speaking and content-specific vocabulary is essential to their understanding the instruction that takes place in class. My students are passionate about reading and writing. My goal is to provide my students with the appropriate tools in order for them to build confidence as readers, writers, and speakers.
My Project
My class is in desperate need of a laptop so that we could write, edit and publish our work. My 4th-grade students are learning to use class literature and the ideas of authors and illustrators in order to discover their own writing style. In class, we are utilizing the traits of writing as well as going through the writing process to edit, revise, publish and present our writing. We need a laptop in order to publish our work so that our writing pieces are more presentable and can be easily read by others.
Please help to bring this project to its full funding so that the children in the ELA Department have an opportunity to use today's technology when publishing their work.
The skills that they learn today will be used in the future. Please make our dream a reality by supporting our vision and allowing us to continue to write, publish and present our work to the audience. We want to continue to grow as writers by challenging ourselves to make our "best writing better." As Robert Penn Warren said, "Real Writers are those who Want to Write, Need to Write, and Have to Write." We are those writers, we believe in the art of writing.
