This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a transitional kindergarten/kindergarten teacher in a general education class of 25 students. I want to provide my students with a wonderful learning environment full of hands-on experiences that encourage them to use their creative minds while learning the curriculum and core concepts.
My school is located in a high poverty neighborhood and a lack of funding requires that teachers spend their own money to provide many of the resources for their students.
My students are enthusiastic learners who deserve the best education and materials to support their learning. This year I have a very unique class in that half of my students are children with disabilities and/or are transitional kindergarteners.
My Project
Writing is such an essential part of my kindergarten instructional program. My students are learning to express themselves through their illustrations and journal writing. Unfortunately with all of the budget cuts we aren't able to photocopy the journal paper that I have used in the past years. Having the appropriate paper with illustration space and the dashed-lines to help them to develop neat manuscript printing and allow them to write stories with increased details as they progress to the journals with smaller lines. I have made their journals myself by hand for years but we no longer have any of the kindergarten writing paper available at my school. The Draw and Write Journals will be perfect for when my students are writing independently. At the end of the year each child will have a collection of writing samples published in their own journal book.
I appreciate your partnership in helping me to bring these essential materials to my classroom.
My students love to write and I know they will really love having their own journal. Thank you for your support and consideration. With your generosity, my students will have that materials they need to present and publish their wonderful writing throughout the year!
