Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My class of third graders have grown so much in their reading, but writing is still such a struggle! My kids have wonderful, creative ideas, but they lack the skills to express those ideas on paper. For some of my students, the process of drafting, revising, and editing is overwhelming. For others, spelling and grammar slows their progress.
As one teacher in a room full of children, I cannot give every student the help that they need at all times. My students need everything from assistance with initial brainstorming to final editing, and everything in between. Because I cannot be helping all of my students at once, those that are waiting often get bored and distracted. Not only does their own progress stop, but they interfere with the progress of the rest of the class. I need productive and independent activities that my students can do during breaks in the writing process!
I am excited to implement a variety of writing centers from Lakeshore Learning in my classroom. My students love the independence of learning centers, and these writing specific activities will allow them to practice a great variety of writing skills using fun, colorful, kid-friendly materials. These centers will inspire my budding writers to keep up the hard work and will give them daily practice on all of the little skills they need to become truly successful.
