This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"There is no great writing, only great rewriting" ~E.B. White My students are avid writers, and I have been exposing them to Writer's Workshop (Lucy Caulkins) with daily rewriting, and mini-lessons on how to better their writing with rewriting.

My students are kind, and caring.

They work as a community so that they are all doing their personal best, whether it be on a class assignment or a game on the yard. They are inspired by others, they currently are inspired to write as we read narrative, expository and persuasive writing from professional authors. My school is poorly funded, and my students live in a low-poverty area. We work hard to give our students what we can with low funding, and lack of materials.

My Project

The writing center will provide an area where students can have access to any writing materials they may need, whether it be paper, pencils, markers for editing and revising, or scissors to literally allow them to tear their writing apart, and piece it back together! The center will allow them to keep our class materials organized and visible. We currently are using spiral notebooks that I bought for each student for writing, they have almost finished using it all and they need a new one to continue their writing. Composition books are more sturdy than spiral notebooks, and would be perfect for my students to write in.

Your donation can help our students continue the progress in writing that they have also begun.

Writing is a skill many people lack, and don't enjoy because they were never given the chance to practice and better this skill.
