Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Have you ever gotten motivated to do your best when you have the right materials?? I want to be able to give my students the tools to become authors and illustrators. A small box of crayons a school year is given to them. Markers and colored pencils have to come out of my pocket.
My students are very creative in their writing and illustrations when they get the motivation they need.
Having these writing tools would certainly help awaken the illustrators in them. Their pictures are often not colored because they just don't want to use the crayons in their boxes. I know that if they had markers, they would immediately become a lot more creative. They also need a quiet space where they can write and having the partitions will certainly help them concentrate on their writing.
My Project
The materials that I am requesting are all for writing. I want to inspire and motivate my students in their writing. The big book stand is so that I can read the big book of the week and then they can move on to prewriting and drafting their work. Once they are ready to publish and illustrate, they will be able to have a small center table where they can grab their paper, crayons, and markers to inspire them to be their most creative. They can practice their spelling patterns with the white board that comes with the big book stand. They can go back to the stand and refer to the big book for spelling checks.
At their seats, they can have a quiet place to write using the partitions. As they work, I can have a small group on the carpet working with the magnetic letters. Having the vowels in red will be a great way to spell the patterns that belong with the long vowels, which are very important to learn in first grade.
This project will provide an opportunity for the kids to actually have an area where they can gather materials and those materials will actually be there in abundance.
I have 26 first graders and I often don't have enough materials to provide them all with the coloring tools so they can put them to good use. I know that having the little center with the materials will inspire them.
