This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are energetic kids with a love of learning. Over 90% of our students come from low-income households. A large percentage of our families meet the definition of homeless. My parents are struggling to pay rent and get food on the table. And yet, our children still want to create, read, write, and learn!
My students worry about starting school and staying safe; and yet, they still want to come to school to explore, learn and grow.
I am trying to meet my students' needs emotionally, as well as academically, during this pandemic. I want them to be safe and stay healthy as they work hard to learn to read, learn to use technology, and at the same time, learn language arts, math, science and social studies.
My Project
Learning to write at home can be a challenge during these unprecedented times. Children hear one direction, and their hands go in another.
With these books, I can teach letter and number formation online and parents can reinforce their kids’ writing at home.
The flip crayons help children learn how to hold a crayon using the tripod grip to form letters.
In addition, my students are using iPads at home while learning to read, write, add and subtract. Stylus pens will help them to write their letters on the screen to answer our math and reading questions on Seesaw and Zoom.
And a boom box will allow us to play our CD’s and make Bluetooth connections to learn the alphabet, rhyming words, chants and songs. It will help us with beginning reading skills. These materials will help my kids learn letters, sounds and writing skills.
