My students are English Language Learners that range from Kindergarten - 5th grade. They are happy and energetic, but can also be shy when speaking.
Our focus is building vocabulary, phonics, and writing skills during small group instruction.
Over ninety percent of my students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch and come from low-income families.
My school is a Title I school that tries to support our students by providing as many supplies as we can, but we are finding it difficult with state budget cuts.
My Project
My students are English Language Learners who greatly benefit from instruction and activities that allow them to build their oral and written vocabulary. During the spring semester, my students will take the WIDA assessment to check their progress in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The writing expectations will vary by grade level. Younger students will write words and simple sentences. Older students will be expected to write paragraphs.
My students will benefit from these resources because they will be able to build these skills throughout the year and feel confident during their WIDA assessment.
The story sequencing set will allow the K-3rd grade students to build their oral vocabulary, while practicing the essential skill of sequencing 3 or 4 part stories. The ready to write prompts will benefit all of my classes from K-5th grade because they will have the opportunity to practice a variety of writing skills from writing simple sentences, up to writing paragraphs about a topic.
