Writing and Drawing to Learn!

Help me give my students this year and in future years get lots and lots of practice drawing, writing, and reading using Boogie Boards without the expense of purchasing dry erase markers, erasers, and whiteboards.

My Students

My students are curious and excited about learning. They come to Kindergarten with limited fine motor skills and with little experience in the learning structure of school. Because of COVID most have not had the opportunity to attend pre-school and come with little or no knowledge of alphabetic principle or number sense. They have not had opportunities to socialize with peers. Kindergarten is their first experience working with people outside of their family.

Regardless of ethnic heritage, Kinders are all English language learners working to acquire a foundation of language in speaking, reading, writing, and counting.

We need lots of opportunities to practice using our whole bodies--all five of our senses.

My Project

The Items I am requesting can be put to immediate use. My supply of dry erase markers and erasers are nearly gone. Our whiteboards have seen a lot of wear and tear over the years. With Boogie boards our practice activities in writing and drawing, spelling, and reading can be unlimited not just this year but in future years. Students have come to school with underdeveloped fine motor skills as television and gaming have become the choice for free-time activities. Many students have spent these COVID years being entertained by television and tablets as their parents have worked at home or where daycare has been unavailable. I am so excited to save paper, ink, and the mess of whiteboards and markers. The students will love it too!

The touch and read phonics kits will help us with our basic reading skills as well as build fluency speed in tracking those sounds across the pages of books.

Students will be able to use three of their five senses--touch, sight, and hearing to embed the phonological skills required to be a good reader while increasing engagement in the process of learning.
