My students are the best students. We have a very diverse student population with children from countries likes Syria, Uzbekistan, and Africa. We are a Title I school where nearly a third of my students speak English as a second language.
On a daily basis these beautiful accepting students are fully engaged in their education.
They are supportive of each other as well as welcoming mainstreamed students that spend some of their day with us that have Autism and other learning disabilities. They are loving and supportive and enjoy working as a team.
My Project
My 1st graders love to write. They need sturdy journals that will not fall about and manipulatives to help them with spelling. The state and wall map will make for easy reference as to where they are in the world.
These materials will help me to create an atmosphere of encouragement and wonder when it comes to the writing process.
Being exposed to reading, writing and spelling is a major component of our 1st grade curriculum. This is the grade level when the fundamental building blocks that will be used throughout a child's life are being made and their love or disdain for a subject is setting in.
