Writers Yearning To Become Publishers

My students need a printer that produces both black and color copies, ink supplies, and paper supplies in order to create quality projects and published writing samples.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. JOHNSON's classroom raised $566

This project is fully funded

My Students

My 5th grade students work hard to create their writing samples. At times, they don't get an opportunity to publish their writing samples to their satisfaction. While they may want to upload an image from a memory card or add clipart, the end result is usually black letters on white typing paper.

I have a classroom of 22 African-American fifth grade students, who attend school in the state of Tennessee.

I have 14 young ladies and 8 young men in my classroom. My students attend a Title I school which provides free or reduced lunch to the students, as well as free tutoring programs to aid the students in both reading and math. My students began the school year as doubtful writers, but have grown to enjoy the writing process a great deal. Listening to their teacher chant, "Practice, practice, practice, makes perfect," has allowed them to blossom as writers. Also seeing their published works displayed in the classroom and hallways has aided in the process of my students growing as writers and desiring to become publishers.

My Project

The resources that I have requested include an HP printer that can scan, print, and copy as well as ink cartridges, and copy paper. These resources will allow my students to publish their writing samples and other classroom projects in the classroom (for years to come)instead of not completing an assignment due to the lack of these types of materials in the home. By having these resources at my students' fingertips, they will become more interested in the writing process. They really enjoy seeing their work displayed in the classroom and hallway. These resources will allow my students to receive a hands-on learning experience in producing their own colorful, published writing samples and other projects in the classroom. They will also learn more about how technology works in this process by enabling them to use these types of resources in the classroom writing/publishing workshop learning center.

The donations for my project request will allow students in my classroom to know that people care about their needs and their education.

It will make them want to work harder during the writing process in order to reach the last step of the writing process, publishing. The impact that this project will have on my students is an ongoing learning process. This project will allow my students to learn the writing process, produce the writing sample, and learn more about technology.
