I have a classroom of 22 African-American fifth grade students, who attend school in the state of Tennessee. I have 14 young ladies and 8 young men in my classroom. My students attend a Title I school which provides free or reduced lunch to the students, as well as free tutoring programs to aid the students in both reading and math. My students began the school year as doubtful writers, but have grown to enjoy the writing process a great deal. Listening to their teacher chant, "Practice, practice, practice, makes perfect," has allowed them to blossom as writers. Also seeing their published works displayed in the classroom and hallways has aided in the process of my students growing as writers and desiring to become publishers.
