My Project

I teach in a kindergarten classroom. My class has children that for some reason would not be able to make it in a regular classroom. They spend a year learning how to socialize, build fine and gross motor skills and gain maturity before going to kindergarten at their home school the following year.

The children in my class have a hard time with fine motor so we learn to write with dry erase boards.

We use them everyday for practicing writing letters, sounding out words and writing sentences. The are a vital part of my classroom. When they become proficient with writing sentences we begin making books. The children draw pictures on a 6 circle writing web and then they create a simple book. I then bind the book and the children read it to the class and also go out and read it to another classroom of their choice. This increases their self esteem, their excitement in wanting and their reading ability. The book binder makes this possible.
