Writer's Workshop Through Literature: Read! Analyze! Write! Share!
Help me give my students their next Literature Circle book, Post-It easel paper for our Writer's Workshop, and individual white boards for immediate student feedback.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Distance learning has been a challenge for our students, parents, and teachers as well. The challenges we all face vary in nature, but currently, it is undoubtedly an economic challenge for us all. Our school is a Title I school where 100% of our students receive free breakfast, lunch and supper.
My young scholars came back ready to tackle the 2021-2022 school year with excitement and perseverance, despite the obvious circumstances due to the Covid 19 pandemic and other obstacles they are facing.
My kids come to class every day eager to learn. Before starting our instructional day, we take a few minutes to discuss what is going on in their life, around their neighborhood, our state and/or country.
My Project
There is nothing more exciting than seeing a child reading a book and actually loving to read! I am asking for a set of the book, Number the Stars, for my kids. We will be using these books to read at home and in class for our guided Literature Circles. Currently, I am teaching them how to annotate and analyze what they are reading to build their comprehension. We use Literature Circle time to build our listening and speaking skills all based on the novel we are reading. The Post-It easel pads will be used by my students when they are in their groups and for our Writer's Workshop time. I like to post their charts around the room so they can share their thoughts/ideas with others through "Gallery Walks." The individual whiteboards are used as a way of providing quick responses where I can get immediate feedback about their understanding.
There is nothing more exciting than seeing a child loving to read novels and sharing their thoughts/feelings through discussion or by writing.
My students and their parents won't have to worry about buying a book for their child. They are learning something new, analyzing. They are already excited to provide quick responses on paper, but what a waste. Imagine the fun they will have providing responses on the whiteboards! Imagine the fun they will have on a Gallery Walk during Writer's Workshop. Imagine learning and having fun! Now, imagine their smiles! Help me get these materials for my students.
