Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach writing in an urban school district. I am the writing coach and I teach students from Kindergarten through grade 5. Our district does not provide writing journals for the students. This tool is extremely important for the students to reflect on their own work as well as show their creative side. There are many students who are unable to write a complete sentence, use the proper punctuation, and there are some students in Kindergarten who are unable to write their names. A journal can help these students catch these mistakes before making them again. The students can use these journals for the opportunity to write daily and practice the skills they learn in class. It will give them the chance to go back and see the mistakes they used to make and how much their writing has grown. I would love for each student to have their own journal to practice their writing and hopefully it will help them learn the important skills they will need in this area to get them through life. You can help them learn the skills they need in preparation for high school and college.
