My Students

I teach in one of the most diverse zip codes in the United States. My kids are mostly students of color with a large first and second generation American population. Our school is also a very socioeconomically diverse community. We have a school wide emphasis on the whole child. We emphasize social emotional learning as well as academic learning.

My students are very insightful, creative and engaged in their learning.

They have vivid imaginations and love to ask questions about the world around them. They love to engage in art projects, puzzle through interesting and challenging math problems using a variety of strategies and learn about their culture and community.

My classroom is a place where students are encouraged to explore their learning in a supportive community. We love to read books that reflect our own experiences and characters that mirror our own lives as well as those that stretch our imaginations! We love to share our thinking with one another and are always stretching and growing our brains!

My Project

This project is designed to help me create excitement around writing time. Many students struggle with the independent work that goes into writing. The items in this station should increase their engagement in writing. I chose several diverse mentor books to help me teach 3rd grade writing standards. Students will have a great model of the writing expectation. The pens and desk supplies will generate interest in the writing station. Kids love to write with pens, to edit with blue pencils and they love having multiple paper choices. An eye catching writing station will have them ready to write! The microphone will have my students anxious to share their great writing with the class and all our families! Thank you for supporting my blooming authors!
