This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My first grade students beg for homework every night because they are so excited to learn. Many of my students do not speak English at home, but their parents know and instill in them how important their education is.

My students come to me at a wide variety of abilities, but they are fast learners and with a little help are amazingly successful.

They treat each other as family and are as kind and caring as if their classmate were their cousin. I love to hear their please and thank you’s and excuse me’s, some of the first English words they learn.

My Project

Sitting still is difficult for little ones. These wobble chairs will help ease the transition from a mostly play-based early childhood classroom to a more structured academic environment by helping children to sit but allowing them to still have the opportunity to move within their own space. They are able to move without bothering other hard workers, and it helps them to focus their attention better. The better students are able to focus, the better their learning will be! We spend a lot of time developing reading and writing stamina in first grade, and this is a tool to help my friends that need a little wiggle room to keep working for longer stretches of time.
