My Students

In a few weeks I'll be preparing my classroom to welcome a new group of eager first grade students. We're all excited to start the school year TOGETHER in a classroom after the past two years of distance learning intervals due to COVID.

We will build a strong classroom community where we work hard and play hard each day.

I encourage my students with the motto "We never, never, never, never, never give up!" This means we all work together, ask questions, and think hard every day.

My Project

One of the most exciting parts of teaching first grade is watching readers become writers! These draw and write journals are the perfect tool for students to draw and write about their drawings. We start with drawings and a few words and build toward complete sentences with appropriate capitalization, spacing and punctuation.

Journals are a record of how student writing evolves with practice.

We write every day and our goal is to produce writing that makes sense to the reader.

The writing process folders are a great way to organize our work as we work through the prewrite/write/edit/ publish writing process.
