I wake up each morning filled with joy, knowing I have the pleasure of teaching my amazing first graders! Fascinated with everything from leaves to portrait art, my students are inquisitive and thrilled about learning. The enthusiasm that these six- and seven-year-olds show for their learning is a daily inspiration and motivator.
My kiddos exhibit a true zest for learning: beaming about books, maneuvering through math problems, and searching for scientific answers.
Ready for any challenge I pose them, my students show the potential and necessity for a strong educational foundation.
My class is part of a neighborhood public school in a community that is growing and changing every day. With many students coming from parents and grandparents who also attended the school, I am intent on providing my students with a first-grade experience that they and their parents will fondly remember.
My Project
First graders love creating published writing pieces! Our Writer's Workshop produces narratives, opinion pieces, and nonfiction galore. My students need a student-friendly writing center that they can ultimately navigate independently.
A paper organizer will make it easy for my students to access the different paper choices during independent writing.
Students will have the agency to determine which type of paper will best suit their needs -- large picture box? small? dotted lines? multiple pages to create a book? It's up to the kids and all the choices will be at their fingertips!
A date stamp will help students quickly mark each day's creations. Sticky notes are quick tools for revisions. Table caddies will hold these writing tools and more, so students are fully in charge of their work.
We will work together, using the Mr. Sketch markers and laminating sheets, to create lasting anchor charts for the Writing Center. Students will be able to refer back to these charts to remember writing techniques we have previously learned.
